Race: Dûr Hîni aka Dark Elves (Children of the dark)
Lifespan: Immortal
Physical Descriptions: The Dûr Hîni are small, approx: 4'8"-5'5". They have blue skin tones ranging from a light gray-blue to a midnight blue. They all have snow to gray-white hair that is often grown long. The hair is always naturally straight and done up in elaborate fashions, males and females alike. The longer one's hair is, the more attractive they are.
They have small pointed ears and their eyes are either white, yellow or violet. They're rather slender to athletically built and have slightly elongated canines. Like the hair, one's body is also seen as attractive or not based on the slimness of him/her. The less curve and slimmer the body, the more attractive they are on a social basis. Any fat on the body is a show of weakness.
Most Dûr Hîni wear their military garb on a daily basis, proud of the work they do but those not involved in combat generally wear dark hued, covering clothing. Modesty is key. Jewelry is worn in good taste and in moderation but only if the jewelry is made by a craftsman at the top of his trade.
Social: Dûr Hîni are very sadistic and cruel, their motivation comes from a sense of duty to his/her people and to their god Bjorn. They are deeply religious and love their god, happy to even die for his will. They are very determined, private and independent people with an opinion on every subject.
Males and females are considered equals on everything. Everyone is judged on their skills and strengths. The Dûr Hîni have a high priority to the strong, even lacking in compassion for anyone of their own race if they do not possess strength for themselves. They even expect glory or death from their own children. Necromancers and Shadowknights are the highest ranks or positions one can be. To settle into either as their selected profession and excel in it is to serve Bjorn, their god, to the fullest and receive the highest glory the race can bestow. Even speaking against Bjorn can get you killed.
Children and families are more a show of one's social standings than anything else. To have a mate who is a shadowknight or necromancer brings honor to you and graces you with higher social standing than you could be without a mate or with a mate not in one of those professions. To have children, many children, who become successful in adulthood and become shadowknights or necromancers themselves settles upon the parents great glory and pride.
To all members of the race, it matters greatly what the others think of you. No Dur Hini should try to rebel or push off the things that would bring positive responses from their people. It is, afterall, of utmost importance to be seen as a model member of society.
Widely enjoyed by all Dûr Hîni are wines made by master wine distillers/brewmasters of their race. It's common knowledge the best wines come from the dark people. In addition, katana smithing is a profession of note and those with exceptional talent have been known to be revered as highly as a general.
Estimated Population: 84,000 individuals.
Standing Army: Yes. They have a very rigidly structured military that rely on inter-cooperation between members of the army. The men in it are trained from childhood to fight effectively and work with his neighbor to take foes down. The training is harsh and it is not uncommon for boys to die during the ordeal. But unlike most other elves the Dur Hini breed easily and bring in more children to replace the ones that are lost.
Their cavalry ride undead steeds conjured by their powerful necromancers and shadowknights. The infantry is comprised of men using spears and strange curved swords called katana. They have proficient archers and spellcasters because of their powerful eyes and magik reserves.
The structure is that of most armies, five High-Generals who take orders from the King. Then in turn have five Generals who work directly under them who have about ten lieutenants under them, each. Under them is a multitude of different groups who receive the orders last and usually see battle first, as well as death. But they are not fazed by such a thing, knowing their god will reward them for what they give.
Aside from this, their culture has cultivated many things other cultures would not. For instance, their fascination with necromancy and other, similar, magikal arts that serve one well during combat when blood and bone are more abundant than steel or wood. They have carefully honed arts that can fell entire troops of enemy soldiers.
Size: Small-Medium. Estimated around 10,500.
Brief list of Names: The current five High-Generals, in order of how long the have served; are Tsithirin Farneu, Hrael Sotonhorian, Ferangu Dev'iel, Vensech Quori, and Xvec Lors'orn. The armies below each, in order of their names; are the Legion of the Damned, Enigma, Disciples of Frost, Stel te' Far, and Battalion of the Dead.
While most are pretty straight forward both Hrael and Xvec have both been known to employ tactics unlike the others. It is said that if anything were to happen to the royal family then these two would be at each others throats in an immediate civil war.
Breeding/Relationships: Dark Elves can't breed with other races, including the Mornequenta. This was a choice of the god so his races would never be deluded. However like all races, the demons can still impregnate their females. Females carry children for 7 months before birthing and all infants are born very small. Dark Elves are unable to carry twins (or more) at any one time but may have as many children as they want over their lifetimes.
For them, mates and companions are more a show of social standing than for love and passion. Arranged mates/marriages are common and having many children that become successful also makes you look good.
