Race: Eldar (High Elves, Golden Elves, Sun Elves)
Lifespan: Immortal
Physical Descriptions: The Eldar are tall, lithe people. They often seem as though they are unreal, so ethereal. Not unlike a dream. They walk fluidly and run with the grace and speed of a deer.
Most Eldar have golden or silver hair and often give off a kind of soft glow. They have pale eyes and skin and are rather tall, ranging from 6' to 6'5. Both male and female grow very little body hair, usually only in the groin and armpits and only grow hair on top of their heads; beards and the likeness are never seen on an Eldar.
Culturally, the Eldar don ornate and decorative clothes in silks and flowing satins. They prefer to wear their hair up and braided in fancy designs.
Physically, children grow slowly, coming to sexual maturity around 120 years of age. This change from child to adult is marked by a sudden urge for sexual contact and increased senses. The urge will pass after a few days into adulthood. This time is called the Eldar's "Sanc'en" (Sank-in).
Social: The Eldar are haughty and arrogant. They will hold social occasions for the honor of their people, for the memory of their ancestors, or for any other number of things relying on dignity or duty. Rarely will an Eldar do anything purely for pleasure.
Most Eldar are no longer religious. While they remain in awe of the power of the gods, their opinions of them have lessened from the view that they are all-powerful and higher than those on the mortal plane, to the belief that the gods were simply there first, like parents but nothing more. The rise of this view came from the great wizard, Thio Andra, who was of the few elves who magikally broke Bein'La away from the mainland.
He said "Our fathers and mother above are our givers. They gave life to our forefathers and mothers and brothers and sisters but their gift ended there. They are our fathers' fathers and our mothers' mothers, nothing more. We should always honor them, always revere them as we would our forebears before us. But they are not to rule us. No, we are gifted freewill and knowledge. We are not as children, but like them in all ways. They have left for us a world to cultivate and love. They have left us each other.
If they were truly more, if truly gods, then their words would match and all laws would be the same. There is no such unity. If we believe that all peoples of Terrastra are people and not the beasts we rule, we should live equally among laws of the living. Those who cannot see this light are lost and as the beasts they pretend to rule. We cannot let darkness blind us. In wisdom, we must bury the old rules from our fathers and mother, knowing now what is best for all. We take those things that are good and holy and reform them like wet clay. We cast out those things that are corrupt like the leaves and twigs that stick to our clay. And when we are finished, we will have bricks; the kind in which we can build a world with."
The Eldar have a king and queen. They live in a monarchy style society but have a council of wizards to keep the royalty in check. A dictatorship is avoided this way.
Socially, every Eldar should be a model of good graces, good values and beauty. Whether in their home or out of their nation, keeping up appearances is paramount.
Murder, theft and adultery are punishable offenses in Bein'la and to the Eldar people anywhere. Mercy should be shown only to the truly repentant and more than anything, the Eldar want peace with the world, if only on their terms.
This isn't so say the Eldar would not protect their people or lands with force if they must. On the contrary, the Eldar have a standing army of soldiers so skilled, the thought of war against them is enough to deter an enemies attack.
With people of other races, the Eldar are less friendly. Being that these elves have a self-proclaimed authority over all the other races, they look down on all others. Some mildly but others with loathing. The dark elves, the Mornaquenta and the Dur Hini, and the demons are looked down upon as scum whereas the Dolour are like the red-headed step-siblings.
Estimated Population: 174,000 individuals.
Standing Army: Yes. One head strategist leads the army, passing orders to a small handful of subordinates who pass down his order through a rather simple pyramid like structure.
The Eldar specifically are known for their cavalry which is comprised of powerful battlemages riding trained Gryphons. They have a formidable infantry which seem to carry specialized scimitar and shield combos. Aside from these things they have powerful machines of war created from their massive knowledge of magicks. They have artillery that can strike down thirty foes that can be up to five miles away. The downside is the aiming of said machinery.
Their navy is quite fearsome but only because of the fearsome creatures of the deep that they call to help them.
Size: Medium. Estimated around 14,000.
Breeding/Relationships: High Elves can breed with other elves of any kind and with humans. Females generally carry for 9 months and will have only one to two children in their lives. One special trait of the Eldar is when it comes time for a woman to give birth, her body knows its time and she can postpone the actual birthing for up to five days without harming herself or the child.
The Eldar believe in lifetime marriages. Divorce is looked very low upon. They value their families highly are remain close with their children until death, if it finds them.
